My desk with the mostly not too bad Dell. Just not powerful enough for my video editing to be anything other than very slow.

Because I am girly and twee I do have this deep seated genetic desire to clutter my desk with irrelevent objects. Though you can’t see his face the pikachu is a grumpy one (properly cute with the angry look).

There is unlikely to ever be a time when I need to buy plastic file pockets because I do have more than a small branch of WHSmith in that box there (genuinely I know what the stock holding of my small local branch is and there are more in that box).

My chair again, because seriously you cannot see enough of this chair. It’s fab. Less fab is that B appears to have dumped all the stuff he didn’t want on his desk on my chair. Hmmm.

Stationery on the top shelf, dictionary corner on the next one. Three of my dictionaries aren’t on the shelf (because I keep forgetting to take them up), but to be honest Saints, Classical Mythology and Architecture aren’t that regularly needed. So they might take a while to migrate.

I so like my swinging files. I can pretend I work in a proper office. I don’t *want* to work in a proper office, but occasionally pretending is okay.

The “Other Side”. Please note the huge screen that is apparently not actually big enough and eagle eyed viewers may spot a Cisco router that is designed for a very large radius (think NEC size). Apparently this too is necessary.

If I was feeling less inert (and not hungry) I’d go to the effort of stitching the pictures of section 1 of the PC graveyard together. And yes I did say section 1, of about 10.

Cunning plan to ensure prevention of putting on too much weight. Furniture far too close together.

Not the office. P’s obsession. Penguins. the child is properly addicted to them I had to watch them going around in circles for half a flipping hour.

Sunday Stealing: “The Finish This Sentence” Meme

1. My uncle once -was a nice reasonable bloke and then gradually he became a spineless twerp who followed every word of his racist, sexist, homophobic wife. To such an extent that he appears to have no mind of his own at all, and is incapable of making any decision without her say so. Which is just weird, at fifty-something you should be able to make up your own mind.

2. Never in my life have I owned a dog. Never wanted to either. I don’t dislike them, but they’re a bit too obedient. I like the fiesty “fuck you” nature of cats.

3. When I was five my parents were almost divorced. *Does quick mental maths*. No actually were divorced.

4. High school was a comprehensive not a high school. It was regarded as one of the posher ones in the area, but too many police requiring fights with the Catholic school across the way sort of tarnished that reputation. It now has 10ft fences and security personnel.

5. I will never forget to sleep. Frankly that’s about the only thing I won’t forget.

6. Once I met Kate Adie, and she was very nice. And very short. Which shocked me. I really didn’t expect her to be shorter than me.

7. There’s this boy I know he makes a lot of noise and is currently attempting to scale a chair for no good reason that I can fathom.

8. Once, at a bar, I was IDed and I was only one of two people in the group who was actually old enough to be served. I had to rifle through my bag for ID, and all I wanted was a bloody orange juice.

9. By noon, I’m awake.

10. Last night I loafed.

12. Next time I go to church is likely to be only when someone I know gets married. And since the next likely marriage candiadate gay and catholic I think the likelyhood of that being in his church is low. (Unless his preist is very progressive)

Anyway I digress, my bit of the world this week

*And heck if the worst comes to the worst I could actually do this. Although whether I would want, ever in my life, to deal with news wholesalers again is another matter.

Summed up highlights/lowlights from the video:

• In my DVDs I own all the episodes of only three programmes.
• One is The West Wing, which I’m happy to say out loud that I love.
• The other two are *mumbles* SATC and Ally McBeal.
• I don’t own one of my favourite films on DVD*, but I do own some utter crap.
• I don’t own enough Woody Allen films.
• For some reason I own only season 4 of Futurama.

I succesfully managed to disturb myself by discovering that quite locally to me there is a man claiming that his services (oils as best I can make out) will cure ”facets of” autism, ADHD and SpLDs. I’m going to assume that no-body reading needs it explaining why in general this discovery has annoyed/angered/upset/worried me. I live in an area that is earmarked for just about every kind of government investment, and with poverty comes all kinds of illiteracy including scientific. I commented on Fish’s blog a few days back about my concerns about the potential response to the Pratchett Alzheimer’s documentary. That desperate people edit out the words possible and trial, and want to know why their Auntie Mabel who is end stage can’t be part of a new drug study. Much of the same applies to parents of Autistic children (or carers for ASD adults). Who can blame them for considering doing anything to get their uncommunicative child talking, eating something other than white food, or smiling?  I’m just horrified that someone (who states that he is a teacher, but oddly mentions no medical qualifications) is charging people £50 for thirty minutes consultation. Equally it worries me that people are paying good money to be told that ADHD can be helped with diet changes, something a GP would tell people for free (this man seems to assume all doctors are desperate to prescribe only drugs, he clearly hasn’t met mine). I can’t even begin to imagine what concoction he prescribes (at an additional fee to the consultation) to cure dyslexia.

All that aside. Any particular suggestions for a video? Anything you want to see? (Not including that, so not happening.)

*Reservoir Dogs. I do have it on VHS though with a lighter and other random special edition stuff. I don’t have a video player though so at some point I do want to get it on DVD.

I’ve had to use YouTube this time, and thus it might only let 25 views happen. If it does behave awkward, and you do want to see itlet me know; though bare in mind the title y’know there’s no nudity or anything salacious (unless badly stored books do it for you).

EDIT: I’ve put it on public but will switch it back off again towards the end of next week, I’m not a massive fan of youtube but until I work out why Cinocopa is making the sound go weird I’m stuck with this.

In the meantime, until we either solve it the sensible way and find out why, or find out how to say “I’ll bring you as much radiator fluid and as many whorish graphics cards as you like if you work” in such a way that the card understands, I am 1394-less.

Which is more or less the reason why this entry is entirely lacking in any visual media. The second reason is that I was intending to take some photographs today, but unfortunately Buxton (where I was, I’m not just randomly name checking) appeared to have stolen Dorothy’s gale. Thus most of my hair (and not just my fringe as is usual) ended up in front of my face, and the Dougal look isn’t conducive to photography. I could have taken some pictures inside Waitrose since my hair wasn’t in my face, but I’m not sure that they’d be a)particularly interesting, or b)that I wouldn’t have been marched out assumed to be some pesky spy from M&S across the shopping centre.

So besides all that grumpy rambling what is this entry about? Erm, feck all really. Except a question, or two. What is the oddest place name of a place you have visited/lived in? And what place name makes you really want to go and see the place?
My curiosity came from looking at the stats on one of the sites we host discovering that a place in the US has a name that sounds a bit like a business to me, and after googling I discover there’s two of them (I’m not going to say the name here because it there are only two places of that name and both have pretty small populations). I then remembered the great entertainment my old flatmate and I had (yes, yes I know) working out how far it was from Eye to Eye (138 miles if you’re curious, 75 to the third Eye). No, we didn’t get out much. Even for theatre geeks we were a bit too geeky all round.
